Oh so close…

As you all probably know, the U.S. Mens Soccer team lost to the Brazilians today. I have to be the first to admit, I didn’t really pay attention until I found out that the U.S. were going to play Spain to get to the finals. I also didn’t think that they would get past the Spaniards but they did in a commanding fashion.

I started this game hopeful that the U.S. Team would compete. Again, I didn’t expect the win. After all, the U.S. had lost to the Brazilians badly. So, you could just imagine my surprise and elation when the U.S. scored first on Dempsey’s redirection. When Donovan scored that beautiful goal on the counter attack, I could taste it. Our goalie and defense looked like they were a stone wall. Never in a thousand years would I imagine going into halftime leading by a 2-0 lead against Brazil. I try and watch the U.S. Men’s team as much as I can and I have never seen them play as brilliant as that. They were not just holding their own. The were winning!

Then the second half happened.

Brazil showed why they are defending champions of the Confederation Cup. They score quickly and kept attacking. The stone wall defense was starting to show cracks that would eventually be gaps. The Brazilians scored 3 unanswered goals. Technically, they appeared to score a 4th goal that the referee missed. In the end, it appeared that Brazil remembered that it is a 90 minute game, and unfortunately, the U.S. forgot.

I want to believe that the U.S. Mens Soccer team has served notice to the world that they are a legitimate force but only time will tell. The Conferations Cup is used as a venue to work on the World Cup. After the last World Cup, I was very disappointed in the play of the U.S. Team. Hopefully, this Confed Cup performance will be used as a springboard for better things to come. Now, I know that it is unlikely that this current team will win the World Cup but I can still hope that they do. I can hope that this performance light the fire under future youth stars in the U.S. It is truly a beautiful game.

Proper attire for the theatre and PreMS

Today, we are going to watch the live Thomas And Friends stage show at the Atlanta Fox Theatre. I had dressed my son in his Thomas attire. The shirt was a sleeveless and had matching shorts. I had decided to wear a sleeveless shirt as well.

My wife took one look at us and frowned and said that we are going to the Fox Theatre. Couldn’t we find something better to wear? I ended up changing my shirt but little Z got to keep his attire on. What happened next led me to make up a new word.

The word is “PreMS” and it is sort of PMS but for girls who have not hit puberty yet.  My daughter, Miss J, started to pout and display a bit of an attitude when she was told that she had to change her ratty shirt to a nicer shirt.  She obediently changed it but started to display her not so pleasant behavior.  After thinking it over and realizing that our son, Mr Z, got to wear his sleeveless t-shirt to the theatre, we told her that she could go back to her previous attire but she had to stop pouting.  Thinking that we made a good decision and was thinking that her mood would brighten up, we were taken surprised that she decided to keep her new change of clothes so she could keep pouting.  And at that point, that is when I came up with my new word.  Mind you… It’s new to me but I’m sure fathers out there have come up with it as well but might have come up with another word.
